KNOWING THE SAVIOR
BY STUDYING THE SCRIPTURE

What to Expect

We’re currently meeting at the Eskew house in Hampton, VA—and when it comes to your physical needs, theological questions, and frustrations with life, this house can feel like the only place on the street that understands.
It’s not big, it's not fancy. And it’s not staged for Instagram.
It’s a simple living room where sinners gather around the Word of God.
We meet every Thursday evening (reach out for details), and yes—there’s food.
There’s conversation. There’s laughter. And there is the steady,
unchanging proclamation of Christ for you.
Not Your Average
Small Group Bible Study
Unlike much of what passes for Bible study these days—endless to-do lists, morals of the story, and tips-and-tricks that leave you spiritually exhausted—our study delivers what the Bible itself delivers: Christ for you.
Not: “Five ways to be a better David.” “How to slay your Goliaths.” “3 steps to unlock your potential.” You’ll hear Law that tells the truth. You’ll hear Gospel that raises the dead. Here you’ll hear the message of Jesus with no ifs, ands, or buts.

How many people attend?
We’ve fluctuated between 5 and 12 regular attendees.
And we love that. Our small group is a BIG deal to us. We’re not trying to pack out a building. We’re growing in the Gospel and growing together. Come build Christian friendships, dig into God’s Word, and receive prayer from fellow people in college and the workforce who are figuring out life in real time.

We’re not focused on numbers. We’re a small group of friends seeking refuge in the Gospel—not attempting to retain a perfect attendance record.

What We're All About:
The CrossReference Bible Study is a group of forgiven sinners sharing God’s good gifts every Thursday. We take the Bible seriously.
But we don't take ourselves too seriously.
We’re here to glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20). That doesn’t mean we’re running a program. It means we’re becoming disciples by observing what Jesus taught.
Every Thursday looks Simple—because it is. We chat.
We eat.
We pray.
We read the Bible.
From time to time, we sing.
We're Scriptural. Every study walks through a book of the Bible verse by verse. We don’t skip the hard parts. We don’t rush past uncomfortable truths. The Word sets the agenda.
We're Spiritual. We believe the Holy Spirit works through the preached and proclaimed Word and prayer.
It's Sacred. Wherever Christ is proclaimed for sinners, holy ground is present…even if it’s hardwood floors and a living room lamp.

We’re bridging the gap between the historic and the contemporary. You’ll hear us quote church fathers and theologians from centuries past. You may hear a hymn written long ago. You’ll also see phones open to Bible apps and conversations shaped by the realities of modern life.
If you feel like a failure, many Christian gatherings will try to coach you into being a winner. At CrossReference, you’ll find fellow failures who gather to hear about how Jesus succeeded on our behalf. Playfully put? We’re a Bible study for people with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. We’re a recovery place masquerading as a Bible study group.
This is a place where you can exhale. A place where you can be honest with God.
A place where you don’t have to wear a mask to impress anyone. Here, you’ll receive what the world does not give: Forgiveness. For free.
And then we go back into the world—not as polished spiritual elites—but as forgiven sinners anchored to Christ, ready to love our neighbors and proclaim the Gospel again.
